Installation and Setup

Last updated: 2026-06-12

Follow these simple steps to download, install, and start using Kiword on your device.

Download Kiword

Kiword is available as a native desktop application for Windows and macOS. All voice processing happens directly on your device — nothing is sent to the cloud.

  1. Visit the Download page on our website.
  2. Choose the installer that matches your operating system (Windows .exe or macOS .dmg).
  3. Wait for the download to complete. The file is typically around 150 – 200 MB.

Install and Launch

The installation process follows the standard flow for your platform.

Windows

After downloading, double-click the .exe installer and follow the on-screen wizard. Once installed, you can launch Kiword from the Start Menu or desktop shortcut.

macOS

Open the .dmg file you downloaded. Drag the Kiword icon into your Applications folder. Launch Kiword from Launchpad or the Applications directory. The first time you open the app, macOS may ask you to confirm — click Open to proceed.

First Steps After Launch

When you open Kiword for the first time, you will see a short onboarding flow that helps you get comfortable with the interface.

  1. Sign in using your Google account or create a Kiword account with your email address.
  2. Grant microphone permission when prompted — Kiword needs it to enable voice typing.
  3. Start speaking naturally. Your words appear on screen almost instantly, processed entirely on your device.
  4. Use the toolbar to adjust text formatting, insert punctuation, or switch between voice and keyboard modes.

What to Do Next

Now that Kiword is set up, here are a few things you can explore to get the most out of it:

  1. Try writing a short journal entry or school paragraph using only your voice.
  2. Explore the formatting options in the toolbar to see how you can edit as you speak.
  3. If you are a parent, invite your child to try it — there is no learning curve, just talk and type.
  4. Check out the Pricing page if you want to upgrade for additional features.

Troubleshooting

If you run into any issues during setup, here are a few common fixes:

  1. Microphone not working? Make sure Kiword has permission to access your microphone in your system settings.
  2. App won't open on macOS? Right-click the app icon and select Open to bypass the Gatekeeper warning.
  3. Voice typing is slow or unresponsive? Kiword works best with a quiet background and a clear speaking pace.
